About St. Matthew's

St. Matthew's Episcopal Church is a parish of the Diocese of West Missouri located in Raytown. In 2003 we celebrated our 50th anniversary of service in the Raytown community.

We are an active congregation with many Opportunities for Ministry both within and outside the parish. Stewardship of relationships is a priority at St. Matthews. We care for and respect each other and it shows in our care of visitors and newcomers. You are always welcome and hospitality is a ministry we take seriously.

The worship of God is our most important work when we gather as God's people.  Typically, our worship follows a very traditional pattern: hear and respond to scripture, pray, and celebrate communion.  While most worship is led by clergy, many lay people participate in every part of the service - including children and youth - on a regular basis.  Much scripture from both the Old and New Testament is a focal point of worship and all the baptized are welcome to receive communion.   For details about what to expect if you attend a worship service at St. Matthew's please click here.

We worship on Sundays at 8:00 a.m. with Rite I and at 10:15 with Rite II using the Book of Common Prayer.  During the months of June, July, and August there is one Sunday worship service that begins at 9:30 AM.  Additional worship opportunities are scheduled on Holy Days and in the seasons of Advent and Lent. Members of the congregation of all ages are active in liturgical ministry at St. Matthew's as acolytes, lectors, and Lay Eucharistic Ministers and Visitors

We're proud of our parish educational program which includes traditional children's Sunday School classes, a Godly Play Worship Center, all three phases of the Journey To Adulthood Program for youth and young adults, and Adult Education. These classes meet Sunday mornings during the school year. In addition, special seasonal educational opportunities are scheduled in Advent and Lent, and Episcopal newcomer classes are regularly available.
